The Aguilars’ Story

The Aguilars, a close-knit family, were on their way to celebrate their son's 5th birthday when their world was abruptly shattered. During a routine traffic stop, Jose, who had been living and working in the United States for 17 years but was undocumented, was handcuffed in front of his wife and children and taken into immigration custody. With Jose being the family's primary provider, their lives were thrown into disarray.

For two agonizing months, the Aguilars endured the pain of separation as Jose remained in immigration custody. The family faced an uncertain future, with their financial stability and dreams hanging in the balance. However, with unwavering determination, Jose fought against deportation in court upon his release. A crucial piece of evidence in his case was a comprehensive psychological evaluation that highlighted the profound suffering his US-born children would endure if he were forced to leave the country. Recognizing the immense hardship the family would face, the court granted Jose the opportunity to stay in the United States with his loved ones, allowing the Aguilars to rebuild their lives and cherish the unity that had been so cruelly threatened.
